"Animals do not search for pleasures where none can be found; guided by their feelings alone, they never make a mistake in their choice; their desires are always proportional to their capacity to enjoy; they feel as much as they enjoy and enjoy only as much as they feel. Man, on the other hand, wanting to invent pleasures, does nothing but spoil nature; wanting to force feelings, he only abuses his being, and digs a hole in his heart which nothing is capable of later filling."
On the Nature of Animals, Buffon
#On the nature of animals
I’ve been capricious my whole life, wanting to do everything all at once, then changing my mind for fear of failing or never knowing how to stay in focus. The one love that never fleeted is nature. Trees, animals, mountains, even insects i’m afraid of… I love them all just the same. There’s a holiness in them that a person could never embody. They don’t judge. They’re here to protect, destroy, rebuild, and nourish all that surrounds you. As an absolute certainty to knowing this, in rare ocassions, some things are just unequivocally known through sheer feeling like a clairvoyant realization. Amongst nature, there’s only one other thing I couldn’t be swayed to doubt.
I am nature. You are nature. The trees, the animals, water, and reefs are nature. Why would you want to destroy yourself? It’s time for change.
